My professional path has taken many turns and a couple of detours to bring me to this point in my journey. My experience has been in working with children, adolescents, families, adults, and couples in individual and group therapy. I have worked in many settings including inpatient/outpatient behavioral health, community mental health agencies, alternative schools for behavioral challenges, and private practice.
Since August 2010, I have been employed as the Upper School Counselor at an independent school. This part of my journey has taught me so much about the importance of providing the social and emotional foundations for students as early as their first day of school. With several colleagues I’ve met along the way, I founded Heart of Character, a passionate team of educators who support teachers and administrators in shaping a school where connected, internally motivated learners go to work in – and help create – a caring community.
As a supervisor, I am competent to work with the variety of client populations listed above and issues such as eating disorders, addiction, trauma, abuse history, depression, anxiety, and other issues of emotional health. I enjoy working with other school counselors who are committed to creating an environment of autonomy, belonging, and competence in their schools.
When I’m not counseling, I enjoy spending time with my family. Although, with two college-age daughters and a teenage daughter at home, that doesn’t happen as often as I’d like. I love to read, watch British crime shows with my husband, and spend time with my friends. They are my village — they challenge and support me, and without them, I’d be lost!
